Summer Reads
The kids are jacked up crazy for school to be out. Moms are figuring out how to get stuff done without the free time they had while Junior was at school. And Dad, well Dad’s watching it all unfold. Vacation? Yes. Keeping up with work? Gotta. Small group? Off. Church in a different gear. Break time.
How about a little reading this summer? Come on, man! You can do it. A little every day and you’ll have learned stuff by fall. Radical Mentoring has a slew of recommended books. If you go to /www/radicalmentoring_205/publicrecommended-books and hold your cursor over the cover of a book, we’ll tell you the mentoring topic it’s for. And you can order it right then and there from Amazon.
I’m in the midst of a couple of books I’d also recommend. Here’s what they are and why.
With by Skye Jethani – A good friend recommended this book. I wasn’t keen on the title but I have a ton of respect for my friend. So I bought it and I’m loving it. It’s breaking some new ground on how I see God relate to Him every day. Very insightful, freeing stuff.
The Good and Beautiful God by James Bryan Smith – A staff pastor from my church recommended this book as the ‘theology’ book for our mentoring track. I’m one of those weird people who reads the introduction and when I learned that the author was mentored by Richard Foster AND Dallas Willard, I thought “Hmm . . . he might know some stuff.” The book’s showing how important narratives are in transforming what we believe and how we behave as a result. Not rocket science, but really helpful stuff.
And one more I’ve already finished . . .
Unwritten by Charles Martin – I read about one novel a year, and the last three years, they’ve all been by this author. Charles is a committed Christian from Jacksonville, Florida. His stories have great characters and interesting twists without any filth or even innuendo. This one’s my favorite so far, although I hear there’s a new one out in a few days.
Yes, the Bible is the central book of our faith. We never abandon nor forget nor minimize it. But add the depth of Scriptural knowledge and practical experience of authors like Smith and Jethani to what God shows me directly through His Word, and I’m moving further faster.
So why not set a goal right now? Three books this summer. One a month.
If the three I’ve mentioned work, fantastic. If not, click here to view our recommended titles.
No matter what you read . . . actually, no matter what you buy, please use the link below to make ALL your purchases on Amazon. A small percentage of every purchase made via this link will help fund Radical Mentoring. No added cost. Not just this summer and not just you . . . you can set bookmarks for yourself, your wife, your kids, everyone you know. Spread it around at work and at church. Every little bit counts and we are very grateful for your support.
Happy Summer and Happy Reading!

A cocaine addict in my home.
Regi, Before blogs were popular I was doing it.
I have authored over 350 articles about all kinds of things.
This one is about Jim Young Jr. Who continues to fight drug addiction. I was with him in court today. He faces many years in prison for defrauding a 94 year old man.
I taught him several hundred verses when he was a child and he knows the Lord and he chose To deny the word of God.
Today at age 50 He is now quoting those verses back to me.
The devil is alive and well on planet earth. We both know that.
I hope that we can become great friends in the years to come. I look forward to chatting with you soon.
I will hook you up with my friend from Vietnam. His name is John Nash.
You have my permission to use any of the things I’ve written on my website and post it here or share with your men that you are mentoring.
Jim Young.
