The Mentoring Manifesto, Vol. 46: Redeeming the Time
While 2021 bore much fruit for Radical Mentoring, I found myself a little tired and weary as the year drew to a close. My screen time increased as I logged more hours on social media and streaming services, and the time I allocated to reading fell off dramatically. To turn this around, I added two timely books to my bedside table: Redeeming Your Time by Jordan Raynor and At Your Best by Carey Nieuwhof. Both have been highly insightful and motivational for me.
Ephesians 5:15-16 reminds us to “walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Raynor describes our motivation for redeeming our time as “service to the Lord, not success in the world.” If the days are evil, we will be overwhelmed with opportunities to waste time on selfish pursuits that we think will lead us to recognition in the world. If we understand that we only have a limited amount of time, then our motivation should be to make disciples, love and serve our families, and enjoy God and his abundant blessings.
Heading into 2022, I desperately want to get this right…for myself, for my family, for those I mentor, and most importantly, for the God who loves me so. I hope you’ll join me; the resources below should nudge us in the right direction.

TRUSTING GOD IN 2022
This sermon from Johnson Ferry Baptist Church uses the story of Joshua to remind us to be strong and courageous in trusting God and to fight for time each day to meditate on His Word and His promises. It’s an impactful message as we head into a new year and a great one to send to your mentees.
