Caution: Christians Work Here!
When I became a follower of Jesus Christ, they hadn’t even started making fish symbols to stick on the back of your car. But in the workplace, a lot of people ‘out there’ for Jesus were pretty obvious. Some of the clues….
- A big ‘ole Bible on the desk…not the credenza, the desk…didn’t look all that used.
- Gospel tracts…shared at the drop of a hat.
- A constant press for everyone to “go to church” (usually meaning their church).
- A ‘blessing’ said wherever food was. If it wasn’t o.k. to pray any other time, it was always o.k. to ‘say grace’ at company functions.
- Christian jewelry on the neck and fingers & Scripture verses on workspace walls.
- ‘Love the sinner, hate the sin’ from the front, but talk about the sinners pretty freely behind their backs.
People who are ‘out there for Jesus’ might look a little different these days. Look around and you might find someone who…
- Conducts himself well; in fact beyond reproach. He’s strong, yet gentle, action-oriented, yet patient, tenacious, yet never bowing to pressure or stress.
- Does his job in an excellent way….he’s respected and looked up to by everyone.
- Has an organized prayer life, seems to have God’s Presence with them every day.
- Loves everyone he comes in contact with. Not tolerance, but genuine, active, demonstrated love and acceptance.
- Serves superiors, coworkers, clients, and vendors well. A humble, consistent servant whose caring turns the heads of people.
- Knows what he believes and why he believes it, but not a ‘show off’. He’s consistently and quietly pursuing a deeper knowledge of the Scriptures.
- Has a sensitivity for when to speak, and when to listen.
- Is ready, willing and able to “give a defense” of his faith when the situation calls for it.
- Is a sought-after resource for Biblical truth and God’s answers to life’s tough questions.
- Consistently invests in relationships with the intention and purpose of helping people move a step closer to Christ.
- Is willing to tell his story, in part or in whole. He’s unashamed of his faith and, when asked, will talk openly about what God has done in his life.
- Is the ‘go-to-guy’ when someone at work has a faith question. He knows how to help people cross over the “line of faith,” either by leading them personally or connecting them with someone who has the tools and experience to lead them into a relationship with Christ.
- He has the depth of experience and the will-power to follow through with a new believer to help them grow in their faith.
Now stop and think for a minute. Who is that person in your workplace?
If you can’t call up a name, it might be you!
If it’s not you today, maybe it can be you in the future. Will you commit to leading and living this way?
Your workplace needs a leader like this.

I was inspired by this post. I would definitely like to be “that guy”. This is also a great check-list to re-evaluate myself on a regular basis. Thank you!
