Faith Over Fear: Saying Yes to God When You Feel Unprepared
Saying yes to God when you feel unprepared is never easy, but He is with you and equips you for what He calls you to.
I remember the first time God called me to lead a women’s group. I knew the topics, the kind of environment I wanted, even the women I was supposed to invite. But I also remember the fear, the doubt that I wasn’t experienced enough, the whisper that I wasn’t good enough.
And I know I am not the only one who has felt that way. Thankfully, Scripture gives us plenty of examples of people who wrestled with insecurity when God asked them to step into something bigger than themselves.
Moses felt afraid and unqualified
When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3:10), Moses immediately replied, “Who am I?” Instead of answering his question directly, God said, “I will be with you.”
That is what God says to us too. When we feel insecure or inadequate, His response is not to point to our strengths, but to His presence.
Moses pushed back again and again: “What if they don’t believe me?” … “I am slow of speech and tongue.” Finally, he even begged, “Please send someone else.”
Have you ever felt that way? Like God gave you an instruction but your first thought was, “Let someone else do it”?
But notice God’s response. He didn’t dismiss Moses. Instead, He provided help:
“What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? … You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. … But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.” (Exodus 4:14–17)
God will always make a way. Sometimes he brings people alongside us, like Aaron. Other times, He places resources or opportunities in our hands, just like He placed the staff in Moses’ hand. What He asks for is our obedience. Our fears don’t scare Him. He simply wants us to surrender them and trust His promise to be with us.

An invitation when you feel unprepared
This is not a call to wing it or skip preparation. Do your best to be ready. But this is an encouragement to take the step anyway, even when you feel like your weaknesses might hold you back.
If you are already a mentor, maybe this is the nudge to try that new thing God is stirring in your heart. Or if you are considering becoming one, maybe this is your invitation to take the next step.
Wherever this finds you, let 2 Timothy 1:7 remind you: God has not given you a spirit of fear. He has given you His Spirit. And with Him, you can step forward in faith, saying yes to God when you feel unprepared, trusting that He will be with you every step of the way.
