Radical Wisdom
If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you probably already know this, but . . . over the course of the sixty-five years I’ve been awake and conscious, I’ve been a collector of principles. Even before I became a Jesus-follower, I picked up “work smart and not so hard” from my boss at the grocery store and “least said is easiest mended” from my mom. These are principles I remember and can say out loud. We can all recite a few of these.
Principles are how we navigate life. We have dreams and goals and visions for our futures, but we navigate life one day at a time. One decision at a time. One relationship at a time. When we’re confronted with decisions and new situations, our brains look for shortcuts. Its first stop is the memory bank. “If I open that barbeque grill with the temperature at 650 degrees, I will singe my eyebrows off.” I know that because I did it last time I grilled, and I looked pretty ugly for a while. All pretty straightforward.
But when the facts are more vague and outcomes less predictable, our minds quickly turn to the principles embedded in our minds. We reach for wisdom . . . for solid guidance on what to do next. It’s not always obvious. “Experience is the best teacher,” yet sometimes we find ourselves making the same mistakes over and over again. Wisdom comes from examined experience. That’s what we’re looking for. And not just our own, but also that of others who have been examining their experiences and converting their wisdom into useful principles.
Leaders are hungry for wisdom. We’re like sponges . . . soaking up every tidbit of useful information we can find. To that end, we’ve collaborated with iDisciple to develop Radical Wisdom: A Daily Journey for Leaders. It’s a 365-day devotional book (or as we’re calling it “a collection of daily readings”) comprising the ‘best of’ these posts over eight years.
Our vision is for Radical Wisdom to be a useful tool to stimulate your thinking as you grow and develop as a leader, husband, father, friend, and Jesus-follower. If you’ve enjoyed and benefited from this blog, we’re confident you’ll enjoy and benefit from Radical Wisdom too.
In addition, we envision Radical Wisdom as a great gift mentors can give their mentees, churches can give their mentors and mentees. Or that anyone can give their friends or family. As with our other books, all profits from sales of Radical Wisdom go to the Radical Mentoring Foundation as we continue to equip and encourage churches to develop leaders.
The planned Amazon availability date for Radical Wisdom is November 23rd, but we need as many people as possible to go to pre-order the book now!
