Worship is the Way Back

So what do I do now that Christmas is over? How do I get back from the orgy of food, wrapping paper and turkey? Short days of early winter. Slow work schedules and hours of the NFL & bowl games. What do I do next?

In a word…worship.

Matthew 2:1 says “AFTER Jesus was born in Bethlehem” (e.g. after Christmas) Magi from the east came to worship him. There’s something about worshipping God that’s inexplicable. Like glove on hand, it’s cool when something fits…when it does what it was made for. I’ve been taught we were made for worship, and even though it makes sense to me, I can’t find those exact words in Scripture. These are close…

“You created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

“Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2).

“You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve”. (Matthew 4:10)

I know it’s God’s will for me to worship Him because I always encounter resistance when I try. The wise men, even with the Supernatural guidance of a celestial phenomena, had Herod to get around to worship the newborn King in person.

For me, distractions abound, including self-consciousness. Pride works against the authentic, unconstrained worship of God. But when I push through the resistance and praise Him, sing to Him, tell Him how awesome He is and how grateful I am for all He’s done for me, I feel His Presence. I am renewed and back on track.

Now that we’ve celebrated His birth, let’s celebrate Him. This morning… and for the next few days, let’s take a few minutes, set our Bibles and our prayer requests down, and simply worship the King of Kings.

You are amazing, God. You are the Lord, creator of Heaven and earth. You are the Alpha and the Omega…the beginning and the end. You are holy. You are good, always good. You are the one true God.

Thank you for loving me. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for adopting me into your family and becoming my father. Thank you for making me your son. Thank you for blessing me with a forgiving wife, with children and grandchildren. Thank you for giving me life and breath and clothes and a home and plenty to eat.

I adore you, Lord God. I worship you. In spirit and in truth, I worship you now.
